Vegetables' cultivation on dam of Halda River

Vegetables' cultivation has developed on both sides of Halda River, the only fish breeding area in South Asia.
During the season, the people around the river fenced and cultivated vegetables to support the family. As far as the eye can see, the ceremony of green. This is like a green revolution. Both sides of the barrier are filled with vegetables.
The winter vegetables produced here meet the demand and are being supplied to various places. The prices of all types of winter vegetables are high in this season as well. Marginal farmers complain that the pockets of traders and retailers are getting heavy. During the dry season people grow their dream crops there as there is a lot of empty space on both sides of the barrage of the Halda river. Which includes various crops including beans, potatoes, tomatoes, raw chillies, brinjal, radish, cauliflower, cabbage and potatoes. Farmers are seeing profit by cultivating vegetables here.
Employment opportunities are being created for the unemployed youth. As there is river water nearby, there is no need to get water to grow these vegetables. Rahim Uddin, a farmer of Madarsha village of the upazila, said that since the government built the barricade, we have benefited by planting and cultivating different types of vegetable seeds on both sides. He also said that we have cultivated different types of vegetables on the river bank.
Out of them, radish and sweet pumpkin cultivation has yielded well. Abdullah Al Mamun, agriculture officer of the upazila, said that every year there is a good harvest of vegetables in the banks and agricultural lands of Haldar, there is a possibility of a good harvest this year as well.
