Executive Director of the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) Dr. Fahmida Khatun today said the high tariff policy of the US is a ‘wakeup’ call for Bangladesh since the country would not get more duty facility beyond LDC graduation.“So, it’s necessary for us to take preparations for enhancing our trade capacity. The suspension of reciprocal tariff for 90 days is a matter of bit comfort for Bangladesh,” she said.
The CPD Executive Director was speaking as chief guest at a shadow parliament on how to face the challenges arising out of US tariff policy held today at the BFDC in the capital.Organized by Debate for Democracy, its President Hasan Ahmed Chowdhury Kiron presided over the shadow parliament.
Following the imposition and temporary suspension of the US reciprocal tariff by the US and subsequently the counter positions of both the US and the China, Dr Fahmida said its seems that the trade war has already begun.
She also opined that an ideal investment-friendly environment would be created in the country if political stability prevails while the law and order situation remains normal.
