Upazila election: Nominations of two out of 37 candidates cancelled in Rangamati

Rangamati district election office authorities have canceled the nomination papers of two of the 37 candidates who applied online for the first phase of upazila elections in Rangamati and declared the nomination applications of the remaining 35 candidates valid.

District Election Officer of Rangamati Mohammad Monir Hossain has confirmed the truth of the above information.

The two canceled candidates are Rangamati Sadar Upazila Parishad chairman candidate Md. Shahjahan and another Jurachhari upazila vice chairman candidate Rontu Chakma. On the other hand, as the candidacy was cancelled, Md. Shahjahan said that he will appeal in this matter and expressed hope that he will get his candidature back.

Upazila Parishad elections to be held in the first phase of Rangamati District Kaukhali, Jurachhari, Barkal and Rangamati Sadar Upazila Parishad elections are scheduled to be held on May 8.

In upcoming elections, 6 chairman posts, 6 vice chairman posts and 3 female vice chairpersons in Sadar upazila, 2 chairman posts, 2 vice chairman posts and 2 female vice chairperson posts in Barkal upazila, 2 chairman posts, 4 vice chairman posts and 3 female vice chairperson posts in Kaukhali upazila.

In Jurachari, 3 candidates have submitted nomination papers for the post of chairman, 2 for the post of vice chairman and 2 for the post of female vice chairman. Rangamati district Awami League has already announced its single candidate for the post of chairman in three of the four upazilas.
