15 Union Parishad (UP) elections will be held on 5 January at Gafargaon under Mymensingh. However, before the vote, the candidates for the post of chairman of the boat symbol nominated by the Awami League in 12 UPs of the upazila have been elected without contest.

Awami League candidates have no rivals in these 12 UPs. In the remaining 3 UPs, the Awami League candidates are the rebel candidates of the rival party.

The Upazila Election Office on Monday officially announced the names of the uncontested chairman candidates in 12 UPs on the day of allotment of symbols. Awami League was elected as the sole candidate, Barbaria Union- Abul Kashem, Saltia Union- Nazmul Haque Dhali, Charalgi Union-Mashuduzzaman, Yashra Union- Tariqul Islam Real, Rawana Union -Shahabul Alam, Gafargaon Union Shamsul Alam, Panchbagh Union- Mahbubul Alam, Longair Union- Abdullah Al Amin Biplob, Usthi Union- Nazrul Islam, Dutterbazar union- Roxana Begum, Niguari- Tajul Islam Mridhao ,Paithal Union said.-Akhtaruzzaman.

In the other 3 UPs, Awami League is fielding multiple independent candidates along with party candidates. The unions are 5 people including Rasulpur boat candidate, 2 people in Mashakhali and 3 people in Tangab union.

Upazila Election Officer Shamshunnahar Bhuiyan said the election will be held in Rasulpur, Mashakhali and Tangab and these three unions as there are multiple candidates for the post of chairman.

Although no election has been held for the post of chairman in the other 12 unions, the election for the post of general member and reserved post will be held as usual.
