Police have arrested three people in connection with the stabbing death of Ziaur Islam (45) by his nephew over a family dispute in Sundarganj, Gaibandha.
Sundarganj Police Inspector (Investigation) Md. Selim Reza confirmed the matter on Monday night.
The deceased was Ziaur Islam, son of the late Zafar Ali of Majhabari village in Belka union of the upazila.
Earlier, on Friday (July 11) at around 9:30 pm, Ziaur Islam was stabbed to death in a clash over the cutting of mango trees in the family homestead. His wife Achma Begum (39) and son Ismail Hossain (17) were seriously injured in the incident. They are currently undergoing treatment at Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
On Saturday (July 12) night, the deceased's wife, Achma Begum, filed a murder case with Sundarganj Police Station, naming five people and accusing 2-3 other unidentified people.
Later, the police conducted a raid and arrested three accused. They are Ibrahim Ali (50), his wife Shamsunnahar Begum (45) and son Chamiul Islam (25). They are the brother, sister-in-law and nephew of the deceased.
The case statement said that on the night of the incident, the accused, armed with sticks and knives, attacked the house in a planned manner. At that time, a nephew named Saiful Islam attacked Achma Begum and Ziaur Islam with a sharp knife. Ziaur Islam died on the spot. The injured were first sent to the Upazila Health Complex and later to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
Police Inspector (Investigation) of Sundarganj Police Station, Selim Reza, said, the arrested have been sent to court. The police operation to arrest the main accused and the absconding people is continuing.
