A protest rally and street meeting were held in Phulbari, Kurigram, in condemnation of the gruesome public murder of a scrap trader in Dhaka’s Mitford area, where he was stoned to death over extortion demands, and the killers danced over his lifeless body.
The protest was organized by Adarsha Jubo Forum, Fulbari Branch, on Saturday after Asr prayer. A rally started from the Upazila Kachari Maidan, marched through all major roads of the upazila, and concluded with a brief street meeting at Tinkona Mor Zero Point.
The event was conducted by Abdul Halim Rana, Treasurer and Office Secretary of the Upazila Youth Wing.
Speakers included Abdur Rahman, Secretary of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Fulbari Upazila branch, and Belal Hossain, President of the Upazila Youth Wing.
Speakers expressed outrage, asking, “Was Bangladesh liberated to make room for such extortion, robbery, murder, and abduction?” They demanded the expulsion and exemplary punishment of all those involved in such heinous acts.
