Ujjwal Laskar makes response by making modern ghuni machine

Nasirul Islam Bablu, Magura

During the three months of the monsoon season from 'Ashar' to 'Bhadra', various canals and beels in the district are filled with water. At this time, the demand for fish in various canals and beels increases.

Fishermen are in a frenzy to catch fish in the canals and beels. Fishermen use various tools to catch fish. Fishing has been an integral part of rural life since ancient times. In continuation of this, fishermen have been using hand-woven rabani or ghuni for ages.

Times are changing, and so are the techniques of that ancient fishing tool. Where fishermen used to make ghuni by hand earlier, now Ujjwal Laskar of DhaneshwargatiVillage of Shalikha Upazila of Magura is making ghuniby machine. He has already made a response in the area by inventing this machine. People from far and wide are flocking to his house to see the machine he invented.

Ujjwal Laskar said, I loved fishing since I was a child. Then I made various fishing equipment with my own hands. I made one to two fishing rabanis or ghunisevery day on average. I somehow managed my family by selling them. This continued for twelve years. Then I planned in my mind how to make a digital fishing machine using modern methods. In continuation of that, I made a digital fishing machine by collecting iron equipment and local materials with my own hands. The first attempt was in 2013. But I could not succeed.

However, I did not give up. I got success by repeatedly changing and developing tests.

He also said that, the parts of the machine are quite interesting, penium high-speed desi motor, iron fingers, like the old sink of a van car. It can be run on electricity or a 12-volt battery. The process of making a ghuni is wonderful. First, bamboo is cut and made into a sink, then with the help of thread, they are tied like a net and finally the traditional fishing ghuni is made.

The villagers are proud of this modern fishing net and the fishermen are happy. This machine can make 9-10 fishing nets in a day. Whereas earlier a fisherman used to make 2-3 fishing nets by hand. Ujjal sells each fishing net for 500 to 1200 taka. Everyone in the family has been helping him in this work and has brought financial solvency.

Arjun Kumar Biswas, Deputy Manager of BSCIC Magura District Office, said, "We have come to know through social media that a person named UjjalLashkar from Dhaneshwargati village of  Shalikhaupazila of Magura has made a machine to make bamboo fishing nets himself. This is a commendable initiative. If he feels any need, he can contact MaguraBSCIC, we will help him around the clock.

This innovation of Ujjal Lashkar has opened new horizons in rural life. If he gets government support, he wants to set up a factory on a large scale. Meanwhile, employment will be created, while the wheels of the rural economy will be set in motion.
