Two get life-term jail over rape of teenage girl in Natore

A tribunal has sentenced two accused to life in jail and jailed another for 10 years over the rape of a teenage girl at Naldanga upazila in Natore district.
Natore's Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Muhammad Abdur Rahim delivered the verdict in presence of the three convicts on Thursday.Mithun Mandal and Ashraful Islam, both 23, was given life-term jail, while Sabbir Hossain, also 18, was sentenced to 10 years' in prison.
In addition to their sentences, Mithun and Ashraful were fined Tk 50,000 and Tk 20,000 respectively.
According to the case statement, the victim, a 14-year-old girl, was tending to goats with her cousins in the morning of May 31, 2021. Mithun, with the help of Ashraful and Sabbir, lured her to a sugarcane field and raped her there.
Hearing the girl's cries for help, locals rushed to her aid and caught Mithun and Ashraful before turning them over to police.
On the following day, the victim filed a case against accusing Mithun, Ashraful and Sabbir at the Naldanga Police Station.
After investigation, investigation officer and sub-inspctor Md Mosharraf Hossain submitted chargesheet to tribunal on July 30, 2021. After recording the depositions, the tribunal delivered the verdict on Thursday (March 14).
