
Two fishermen sentenced to prison for fishing hilsa in Kawkhali defying ban

A mobile court has sentenced two fishermen to one month's imprisonment for violating the ban on fishing for hilsa in Kaukhali, Pirojpur.
UNO.and Executive Magistrate Swajal Molla conducted the mobile court on Sunday morning. The convicted persons are Palash Hawlader (45), son of Amir Ali of Subidpur village in Chirapara Parsaturia union of the upazila, and A. Awal (27), son of Md. Yasin Hawlader of the same village.
Upazila Fisheries Officer Md. Hafizur Rahman, who conducted the operation, said that the operation was conducted at various points of the Sandhya River in the upazila from Saturday night to Sunday morning. During this time, two fishermen were arrested while fishing for Hilsa in the Subidpur area of the Sandhya River. Later, on Sunday morning, when they were presented before the Upazila Executive Officer's mobile court, the court sentenced each of them to 30 days' imprisonment.
