 Moulvibazar Sadar Model Police arrested two individuals on charges of impersonating army personnel and attempting to extort stall owners at an ongoing women entrepreneur fair at M. Saifur Rahman Auditorium in the town.

Police seized one walkie-talkie set, a pair of trousers and a t-shirt resembling military uniforms, three photos of military identity cards, and three mobile phones from their possession during the operation.

The arrestees were identified as Imran Ahmed (20), son of Samchuddin Miah, and Masum Ahmed (19), son of Belal Miah, both hailing from Nowagaon village in Kamarchak Union under Rajnagar Upazila of the district.

Moulvibazar District Police confirmed the arrest in a press release issued on Wednesday afternoon.

According to police sources, the suspects entered the women entrepreneur fair at the auditorium at approximately 8:00 PM on Tuesday, September 29, 2026. Introducing themselves as active military personnel, they displayed an ID card, a walkie-talkie, and photos on their mobile phones showing them in army uniform to shop owners and staff. They subsequently demanded cash from stall operators, threatening them with arrest and harassment if they failed to comply.

Suspicious fairgoers and stall owners detained the duo on the spot, though two of their accomplices managed to flee the venue. Upon being informed, a team from Moulvibazar Sadar Model Police arrived at the scene, took both suspects into custody, and confiscated their gear.

OC  of Moulvibazar Sadar Model Police Station Md. Saiful Islam stated that preliminary interrogation revealed the arrestees used uniform-like apparel and walkie-talkies to intimidate local vendors. A regular case has been filed based on a written complaint submitted by Nahid Ahmed, a member of the fair organizing committee, while operations remain underway to apprehend the remaining accomplices.
