Two-day ‘First Satyendra Nath Bose National Science Festival’ begins at DU

The inaugural Satyendra Nath Bose National Science Festival commenced at Curzon Hall, Dhaka University om Saturday. 
 
 The Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Admin) of Dhaka University, Prof Dr. Sayma Haque Bidisha, inaugurated the two-day festival as the chief guest during a ceremony held at the Curzon Hall premises.
 
 The event, titled *‘Brac-Biggan Adda 1st S.N. Bose National Science Festival-2025’*, was organized by Biggan Adda, a student organization of Dhaka University. 
 
The Dhaka University Science Society, Dhaka University Research Society, Dhaka University Chess Club, and Dhaka University Quiz Society assisted in organizing the festival.

The Vice-Chancellor of the International University of Business, Agriculture, and Technology (IUBAT), Professor Dr. Abdur Rab, Dhaka University Treasurer Prof  Dr. M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Dean of the Faculty of Earth and Environmental Sciences Professor Dr. Kazi Matin Uddin Ahmed, and Dean of the Faculty of Biological Sciences Professor Dr. Md. Enamul Haque spoke as special guests at the inaugural ceremony. Additionally, Umama Fatema, co-founder and key organizer of Biggan Adda, delivered a speech.

Prof  Dr. Sayma Haque Bidisha emphasized the importance of scientific research and innovation, stating that to remain competitive globally in this era of science, Bangladesh must focus on advancing science and technology. She stressed the need to stay informed about ongoing global research in various fields of science, including information technology. She noted that, in the context of the July uprising, the youth are rethinking the state and society, and this youth-driven science festival is an expression of that. She expressed hope that the festival would play a significant role in enhancing students’ skills, fostering enthusiasm, and generating interest in science education.

The festival features a Science Olympiad, IT Hackathon, impromptu speech competition, poster presentation, innovation exhibition, general science quiz, open-rated chess competition, and Rubik’s Cube competition. Students from secondary, higher secondary, and undergraduate levels are participating in various categories.
 
 The festival also includes cryptocurrency, geopolitical alliance, and science-based talk shows.
