
Petrol pump, tank lorry owners call off protest

Petrol Pump Owners and Tank Lorry Owners Unity Council have put an end to their protest following an assurance from the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC).
As part of their protest, Bangladesh Petrol Pump and Tank Lorry Owners Unity Council enforced an eight-hour strike at 6am today (25 May) to press home their 10-point demand.North Bengal Tank Lorry Workers Union president Azizur Rahman said, "After observing the eight-hour strike called by the Bangladesh Petrol Pump and Tanker Lorry Owners' Unity Council, the BPC has assured us of accepting the demands. As a result, no further programmes have been announced."The demands of the council include setting the oil sales commission at a minimum of 7%, keeping lease fees for land from the Roads and Highways Department unchanged, and allowing lease renewals of pump-connecting roads upon submission of the prescribed pay order.
