Two cops transferred from Patiya for 'working for Whip'

Two cops of Patiya police station in the district were transferred on Monday.
The cops identified as Sub Inspector (SI) Sanjoy Ghosh and Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Ziaul Haq Zia were attached with the district police line, said Officer in-Charge (OC) Jasim Uddin of the police station.
The transfer was made reportedly after Bangladesh Awami League (AL)-backed candidate Motaherul Islam Chowdhury for Chattogram-12 (Patiya) constituency lodged complaint against nine cops.
The cops were assisting the Independent candidate Whip Shamsul Hoque Chowdhury in different ways, the AL candidate alleged in the complaint filed with the Election Commission earlier.
They were harassing and threating the leaders and activists of AL and its associate organisations going door-to-door, Motaherul alleged further.
He brought the allegations against Inspector (Investigation) Md Solaiman, SI Sanjoy Ghosh, Md Asadur Rahman, Ratan Kanti Dey, Akram Hossain Suman, Shimul Chandra Das, Zia, ASI Md Fayez Ahmed and ASI Anup Kumar of the police station.
Officer In-Charge (OC) Jashim Uddin of Patiya police station, however, claimed that the transfer was a regular event.
