Moulvibazar Correspondent
Two candidates contesting for Moulvibazar-2 (Kulaura) constituency have demanded the withdrawal of Mohammad Ali Mahmud, who has joined Kulaura police station in Moulvibazar as the new officer-in-charge (OC). Independent candidate Upazila Awami League leader AKM Shafi Ahmed Solman on December 11 and Chief election agent Mohammad Habibur Rahman on behalf of Trinamool BNP candidate M M Shaheen sent two separate letters to the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) on December 10 demanding the withdrawal of OC Ali Mahmud before joining the police station. gave Copies of which have been given to Election Commissioners, Secretary Election Commission and various offices. Meanwhile, on December 12, Ali Mahmud joined Kulaura police station.
Shafiul Alam Chowdhury Nadel, organizing secretary of the party's central committee, has received the party nomination of Awami League for Moulvibazar-2 Kulaura seat in the 12th National Assembly elections. Referring to the good relationship of police officer Ali Mahmud with him, the two candidates said that there is a danger of affecting the election.
independent candidate AKM Shafi Ahmed Solman resigned from the post of Chairman of Upazila Parishad and is contesting in the parliamentary elections. He is the senior vice president of Kulaura Upazila Awami League. And Trinamool BNP candidate M M Shaheen was a former two-time Member of Parliament.
Shafi Ahmed Solman's letter mentions that he has become a candidate after being encouraged by the Prime Minister's promise and the Election Commission's declaration of free, fair and impartial elections. Shafiul Alam Chowdhury Nadel, candidate of Awami League in Kulaura Constituency, was born and his political workplace is in Sylhet city. Ali Mahmood was transferred to Kulaura police station and Nadel's close relationship with this OC created public anxiety.
On the news of OC's arrival in Kulaura, supporters of Shafiul Alam Nadel are cheering and distributing sweets. The identified terrorists and gunmen of Sylhet city have already stayed in Kulaura city. Violating the election code of conduct, the meeting continues. In this situation, Ali Mahmud was demanded to withdraw from Kulaura on an urgent basis for the sake of fair elections in the letter. Trinamool BNP candidate M M Shaheen's letter mentions that a candidate contesting in Kulaura seat has a good relationship with OC Ali Mahmud, who has been transferred to Kulaura police station. The personal relationship between the two of them is very good. So OC Ali Mahmud can favor that candidate by influencing the administration.
Other contenders may suffer due to this. OC Ali Mahmud can also stand in the way of Election Commission's promise of a fair, peaceful and acceptable election in Moulvibazar-2 seat. Therefore, instead of OC Ali Mahmud, another officer was demanded to be transferred to Kulaura police station. Regarding the complaints of the two candidates, the new OC of Kulaura police station Mohammad Ali Mahmud said, I have no good relationship with the leader of any political organization. I have no particular weakness towards him (Nadel). Those who work as OCs in the police get to know everyone in the society. The OC chair is open to all. Our transfer was done from the police headquarters through the Election Commission.
In this regard, Awami League candidate Shafiul Alam Chowdhury Nadel said that the relationship can be with many people. I know many people in the country because of working in Sylhet or Dhaka. OC has the power to pass the election? People will vote. I have no idea about the transfer of OC. It is a matter for their department.
