Two business firms fined in consumer rights drive in Narail

The National Consumer Rights Protection Department conducted the drive in Narail Sadar Upazila and fined two business firms Tk 34,000 for various violations.
The drive was conducted on Monday in the Bhavakhali area of the district to keep the price of daily necessities stable and supply normal and to ensure consumer rights.
Shamim Hasan, Assistant Director of the National Consumer Rights Protection Department, Narail, led the drive.
According to relevant sources, although MRP is supposed to be given on the bags of rice produced from the mill gate as per the policy announced by the government, it is not being given on the bags of rice produced by Messrs. Molly Traders and Rice Mill. Instead, bags of other mills are being brought and processed. In addition, the bags are being marketed with a weight of about 250 to 300 grams less than the rice produced.
On the other hand, an organization called Safa Purified Water does not have BSTI approval, nor does it have BUET Lab approval. In addition, there is no MRP on the water bottles supplied by this organization.
In these crimes, in the consumer campaign, a fine of 30 thousand taka was imposed on Messrs. Molly Traders and Rice Mill owner Aminur Rahman Mithu under sections 38 and 44 of the Consumer Act and a fine of 4 thousand taka was imposed on Safa Purified Water Supplier owner Md. Motaleb under Section 37 of the Consumer Act.
In addition, police members provided overall cooperation.
