BGB holds meeting at Gowainghat border

A meeting was organized by Sylhet 48 BGB to raise public awareness among the local people to stop illegal smuggling at the Gowainghat border in Sylhet on Wednesday.

The meeting was held at the field adjacent to the Pratappur border post in Gowainghat upazila under the chairmanship of Border Guard Bangladesh 48 BGB Sylhet Commander Lt. Col. Md. Hafizur Rahman and moderated by Assistant Director Mohammad Faruk Hossain. Gowainghat Upazila Executive Officer Ratan Kumar Adhikari spoke as the chief guest. Gowainghat Police Station OC Investigation S. M. Mahmudul Hasan, West Jaflong UP Chairman Md. Mamun Parvez, Nakshiya Punji Chief Tribal Leader Welcome Lamba, Radhanagar Bazar Traders Association General Secretary Dr. Nur Mohammad, Gowainghat Press Club General Secretary Karim Mahmud Limon, and prominent businessman and social worker Md. Kamal Ahmed spoke as special guests. After the exchange of views, free medical and medical supplies were distributed to more than a hundred people in the border area at the field adjacent to the Pratappur border outpost under the control of Pratappur BOP in Gowainghat Upazila by Captain, Sector Medical Officer Sohana Afroz Dew of Sylhet 48 BGB and Dr. Arafat Islam of Sylhet Central Jail Hospital. The 48 BGB captain said that the BGB is working relentlessly in the interest of the country.

In continuation of this, the Sylhet 48 BGB seized smuggled goods worth Tk 139 crore in the BGB operation from July 2024 to January 2025. He requested everyone in the border area to abide by the law, lead an honest life and support the BGB, administration, police and other organizations in the interest of the country.
