Trying to interfere in polling booths will have dire consequences : Gazipur SP

Gazipur Superintendent of Police Kazi Shafiqul Alam has informed that any kind of interference in the polling station will have bad consequences. He said, "In the 12th National Assembly election, if someone touches the ballot paper illegally, their hand will be burnt." The punishment will be several times more than the crime. You have no reason to fear. We law enforcement are always with you. We will not sit down if we put our hands on your body. Law enforcement forces will not give a single concession.
Gazipur Superintendent of Police Kazi Shafiqul Alam said these things in the training program of the officers concerned in polling on the occasion of the 12th National Assembly elections. This event was organized by Sripur Upazila Election Office of Gazipur on Friday morning in the hall of Freedom Fighter Rahmat Ali Government College.
Sripur Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) and Assistant Returning Officer Shamima Yasmin presided over the event. He said, "Those who will illegally touch the ballot paper or touch your body, what kind of punishment will be given, what kind of punishment will be given, they know well. So you have no reason to fear. An election is a means of determining the fate of the people of Bangladesh. As far as organizing elections, everyone is responsible within the policy. We are all responsible for policy. My Lord sees all that I do. We, all of you are committed to deliver a free, fair and impartial peaceful election. You will fearlessly perform the duties assigned to you.
The law enforcement forces will always be by your side. In the chief guest's speech, Gazipur District Commissioner and Returning Officer Abul Fateh Mohammad Shafiqul Islam addressed the polling officials and said, 'What you can do and what you cannot do, the Election Officers Special Provisions Act, 1991 has said. This Act has been clarified in eight sections. It is very clearly stated here, after joining the election work, you and I cannot do any other work. No conflicting work can be done.
The Deputy Commissioner also said, 'Be careful in using your social media Facebook. You have to perform your duty with skill and bravery for the greater interest of the state. Ballot papers will be delivered to polling stations by 7 am. Pay special attention to female colleagues. You are the most powerful person in the polling station on election day. It is said that because of power, your decision will be correct on election day. Never hesitate to take drastic action.'
Returning officer Abul Fateh Mohammad Shafiqul Islam said, "We have many fears, especially a group may plan sabotage, you should be extra careful about them, so that you can give them a proper response." Keep the ballot paper in your custody. Keep the mobile phones of the polling agents and your polling assistants with you until polling is over.'
Also present at this time were Gazipur District Police Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police Kaliakair Circle Ajmir Hossain, District Election Officer AHM Kamrul Hasan, Upazila Assistant Commissioner Bhumi Md. Al Mamun, upazila election officer Al Noman and polling officials.
