Transfer of teachers, salary, allowances demanded in Thakurgaon

Thakurgaon Correspondent

The victims of Thakurgaon Polytechnic Institute have staged a sit-in and human chain program demanding transfer of 8 teachers in the revenue sector from the completed project titled Skills and Training Enhancement Project (STEP) to the revenue department and payment of 18 months arrears of salary allowances.

They held a sit-in in front of the main gate of the Shaheed Minar premises of the Polytechnic Institute at 11 am on Tuesday and held a human chain on the highway.

In order to expand technical education, 1015 teachers were recruited across the country through a project in 2012 and 2014. Of which 6 teachers are currently working. Later, Hon'ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina proposed to transfer the job to the revenue department in 2019. The Ministry of Education instructed to conduct educational activities by keeping 6 teachers on temporary basis.

The Minister of Education handed over a DO letter to the Minister of State for Public Administration to transfer the jobs of 6 teachers to the revenue department after payment of salaries at the end of the project period as the teachers were conducting the activities as per the instructions. But despite the directives of the Prime Minister, the transfer process in the revenue sector has not materialized due to delays. As a result, salaries and allowances of all teachers have been suspended for 18 months till 2020-21. They demanded immediate payment of arrears of salaries and allowances to the teachers and speedy transfer to the revenue sector.

Teacher Alamgir Hossain said, "We do not understand why we are not getting our salary and allowances even on the condition given by the Prime Minister." We are living a dehumanized life because we don't get paid Even then, we are fulfilling the responsibilities that we have in the organization. We strongly demand that our teachers be transferred to the revenue sector very soon and pay salaries and allowances.

Teacher Sharmila said that 49 polytechnics across the country are conducting simultaneous sit-ins and human chain. We are carrying out this program in that continuity If a teacher is not paid for 18 months, a family can't wait to tell you how helpless they are We strongly demand the government to transfer the jobs of our 6 teachers to the revenue sector and pay the arrears of salary allowances.

Thakurgaon Polytechnic Institute Principal, Engineer Maksudur Rahman said, “We have 18 teachers in our institution under STEP. They have been living a dehumanized life without getting salary for 18 months. We are drawing the attention of the authorities to make quick transfers to the revenue sector and pay their salaries and allowances
