
Human chain, work stoppage observed in Khagrachhari to protest attacks on media personnel

Like the rest of the country, a human chain and work stoppage program have been observed in Khagrachari to protest the recent violent incidents involving attacks on media workers.
The human chain was held at Shapla Chattar in the district town on Wednesday as a joint initiative of the Khagrachhari Press Club and the Journalists Union.
The President of the Journalists Union, Shahriar Yunus, moderated the speech by Press Club President Tarun Bhattacharya, Vice President Md. Zahurul Alam, General Secretary HM Prafulla, Library and Cultural Secretary Md. Abdur Rouf, and journalists from nine upazilas.
The speakers at the meeting said that in the recent violent incidents in Khagrachari, journalists were attacked,
threats to death, obstruction in performing their professional duties, cameras and mobile phones were taken away while collecting information. They were subjected to various types of threats, intimidation, harassment and intimidation. If security is not ensured in such a situation, it will never be possible for journalists to independently carry out their duties as a mirror of society in publishing true and impartial news. They urged the administration to take immediate and effective steps to ensure the safety of media workers so that they can perform their duties in a fear-free environment.
After the human chain, the journalists stood in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office and observed a work stoppage. At this time, Deputy Commissioner ABM Iftekharul Islam Khandaker was present and expressed solidarity with the demands of the journalists. He also assured that necessary measures would be taken immediately to ensure their safety.
