Traders issue ultimatum, protest disrespectful behaviour of VAT officer in Kuakata

Local hotel and motel owners have expressed their concern in protest against the discourteous behavior of a VAT official in Kuakata, Patuakhali. The anger was expressed in an emergency press conference organized by the Hotel and Motel Owners Association at the Kuakata Press Club on Sunday at 11 am.
The organization's Secretary General Md. Said Hasan said in a written statement that on October 8 at around 4 pm, Assistant Commissioner (VAT) A. K. M. Jamiul Alam went to Kuakata's Saikat Hotel and behaved very rudely with the hotel manager regarding VAT issues. When the hotel owner was not present at the time, the manager tried to contact the association's president, but the VAT officer got angry and used obscene and indecent language towards the president.
The press conference also claimed that the organization has a video of the incident. The speakers said, "Such disrespectful behavior from a government official is unacceptable."
In this regard, Hotel Saikat manager Rajib said, "VAT officer Jamiul Islam started behaving badly as soon as he arrived. When I took out my mobile phone to inform the authorities about the matter, they wanted to take away my mobile phone and abused me using bad language about the president of the Hotel Motel Association."

The association demands that Assistant Commissioner (VAT) A. K. M. Jamiul Alam should be withdrawn from Patuakhali within the next 72 hours and exemplary punishment should be taken against him. Otherwise, a larger movement program will be announced involving all business organizations in the Kuakata tourism area.
In this regard, Assistant Commissioner (VAT) A. K. M. Jamiul Alam said, "We went to Kuakata for a VAT survey. We did not behave in any disrespectful manner, but rather the hotel authorities created confusion by failing to provide the necessary information."
