A tourist named Raj Barman was arrested with bottles of foreign liquor while returning to a houseboat in Niladri.
The arrest took place on Friday afternoon at the market near the Takerghat Limestone Mining Project in Tahirpur, Sunamganj.
Raj Barman is the son of Bhakta Barman, a resident of New Subhadya (Chunkutia) in Keraniganj, Dhaka.
The information was confirmed by the media cell of the Sunamganj District Police. According to them, Sub-Inspector Pankaj Das, in-charge of the temporary police camp at Takerghat, apprehended Raj from the Takerghat market area along with the liquor bottles.
During police interrogation, Raj admitted that he had purchased the foreign liquor from local drug dealers. He was on his way back to the Niladri docked houseboat, anchored at the Takerghat Niladri trawler terminal, intending to consume the liquor with fellow tourists.
It may be noted that Raj Barman, along with other tourists, visited Niladri on Friday morning by houseboat, which had set out from the abandoned quarry site of the Takerghat Limestone Mining Project, a popular tourist route around Tanguar Haor.
