
Tk 4cr, foreign currencies found in Amu’s Jhalakati house

Members of the army and police have found around Tk4 core in cash and foreign currencies at the residence of Awami League MP Amir Hossain Amu in Jhalakathi.
Police said an unruly mob vandalised and set fire to the house located on Ronals Road in the town on Monday afternoon after Sheikh Hasina left the country following her resignation as the prime minister.
Members of the Fire Service and Civil Defence tamed the blaze.
Around 12am on Tuesday, locals spotted fire again on the third floor of the residence and informed the fire service members, they said.
Firefighters rushed to the spot and started extinguishing the blaze. At one stage, they found bundles of taka notes in the luggage and informed the deputy commissioner (DC).
The army personnel along with police members arrived at the scene and seized the luggage.
They discovered intact notes worth Tk1 crore from one suitcase and partially burnt notes worth Tk2.77 crore from other luggage.
Apart from this, foreign currencies, including the US dollar and euro, worth Tk1 crore were also found.
Confirming the matter, Jhalakathi Fire Service Station Master Md Shafiqul Islam said they informed the DC about the issue while the army and police personnel seized the money.
