
Thousands of families affected in Barguna

The southern coastal district Barguna has been devastated by Cyclone Rimal. However, although no death has been reported so far, houses, crops, fish enclosures and embankments have been severely damaged. On the other hand, after the power outage since yesterday after the cyclone hit, electricity connection was provided in some parts of the municipality this evening but still several lakhs of people in six upazilas are still without electricity. The administration is working in the field to make everything operational.
On Monday afternoon, various risky areas including Baraitla Ferighat, Dalbhanga, Dhalua, Purakata, Ayala-Patakata were seen. Thousands of people are trapped in water in different areas of the district due to strong storm, wind and heavy rain since yesterday. Hundreds of thousands of people are frustrated not being able to communicate with their relatives in six upazilas of the district due to extensive damage caused by the destruction of trees and houses, traffic on the roads and network disconnection.
Priya Akhter of Charkaloni area said that the house has been flooded since yesterday. I can't arrange cooking in any way. However, I am somehow surviving by eating dry food. Getting some satisfaction after the cyclone stopped.
A tree fell on the Town Hall Bridge on the Dhaka-Barguna road and traffic was blocked. Local resident Noman said that at least one and a half hundred trees have fallen on both sides of this road. Pedestrians are suffering as a result.
According to the district administration, more than three hundred villages have been flooded due to damage of 12 km embankment in the district. 2 lakh 31 thousand 700 people were trapped in water. 3 thousand 374 houses were destroyed. 13 thousand 34 houses have been partially damaged. 6 thousand hectares of agricultural land has been flooded. Fish enclosures and water bodies of 4 thousand 157 hectares of land have been damaged.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Barguna Sadar, Shamim Mia said, due to the bad condition of the mobile network in Barguna, 'before listing the damage, we are talking to the companies and working to activate the network connection.
Taltali UNO Sifat Anwara Tumpa said, "Plants have been uprooted in different areas in this upazila. And houses were damaged. However, since planting trees, I myself have succeeded in working with people to make roads and waterways operational. And looking after the affected families.
Deputy Commissioner Moha. Rafiqul Islam said, we are preparing the list after receiving reports of damage in six upazilas due to the impact of cyclone Rimal.
Accordingly, the government has started support programs for the victims in all upazilas. It would not be possible to help everyone quickly with what was allocated. But we are trying. I am giving help to those who are more affected. However, many families are still in shelters among the water-bound families. I am also looking into them.
He also said that there was no loss of life in the administration's efforts to evacuate the residents from the dangerous area.
