Ten gold bars seized at Hili border, one arrested

An alleged smuggler was arrested on Wednesday (March 6) along with 10 gold bars at Hili border in Dinajpur district.
20 Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested Mehedi Hasan with the gold bars.
The arrested 34-year-old accused Mehedi is the son of Taraf Haji from village Uttar Basudebpur in Hili.
Hakimpur police station's police sent arrested Mehedi Hasan to Dinajpur court on early Wednesday (March 6).
20 BGB's deputy commander Major Afique Hasan said the battalion's compander learnt at about 10:15am on Tuesday that gold would be smuggled out to India through the Hili border. Based on the information, Mongla Camp commander Nayek Faruk Hossain was directed to conduct a drive.
Accordingly, a team of BGB personnel led by Nayek Faruk Hossain conducted an operation on the road near the Satkuri rail gate of the border and detained Mehedi Hasan with a motorcycle. Then searching the motorcycle and him, the BGB personnel seized 10 gold bars weighing 1.050 kg worth Tk 1,12,40,810.
He said a case was filed against the arrested Mehedi Hasan and he was handed over to Hakimpur (Hili) Police Station custody.
