A symbolic shroud procession and protest rally was held demanding the execution of proven rapists within 3 months and the formation of a special tribunal to prevent rape and violence against women at 11:00 AM on Friday led by Momin Mahadi, Chairman of Natundhara Bangladesh - NDB. Speakers at the event were Presidium Member and freedom fighter Fazlul Haque, Senior Vice Chairman Shanta Farjana, Acting Secretary General Kazi Munni Alam, Joint Secretary General Monir Zaman, Organizing Secretary Wazed Rana, Rubel Akand, Aftab Mondal, Aleya Begum Alo, Hafizur Rahman, members of the National Education Front Kazi Nowrin and Kawsar Hossain, among others. The leaders criticized the Ministry of Law and Justice for the delay in verdict implementation, stating, “Although the verdict in the 2019 Nusrat murder case was given, it has not been executed even after six years. This delay has only emboldened rapists and murderers.” They further mentioned that in the case of Achiya’s rape and murder, the failure to implement justice has allowed perpetrators to roam free and dominate. Momin Mahadi remarked, 'Tragically, the number of rape incidents in the first six months of this year already exceeds the total for the entire year of 2024. Moreover, over a thousand attempted rapes occurred during the same period. Certain so-called ideological political platforms born out of the distortion of the spirit of July 36 are now engaging in practices of abuse and rape. As a result, when a child's corpse is found in a mosque like little Moyna, or when our mothers and sisters are brutally raped across the country, these groups exploit such tragedies for political gain and theatrics, following the footsteps of past fascists.” When the media reports that over 500 rapes have occurred in just six months, Natundhara leaders said, “We fail to understand the need for any Home Affairs Advisor. Shockingly, only a quarter of violence against women even makes it to the media. Most coverage is limited to high-profile cases like gang rapes. If the offenders are influential, even local media cannot report the crimes.” They also pointed out that in the past 11 months, 870 rapes occurred solely due to the absence of proper justice. “As politicians of Natundhara Bangladesh NDB, who stand with the people, we have taken to the streets 48 times in the past 13 years demanding execution of proven rapists within three months. The former fascists remained silent in support of rapists, and the current fascists are providing shelter and protection to them. In some cases, they are even financing rapists to use them for political purposes.”
