Sylhet Test: Quick wickets daunt New Zealand’s chase for 332

New Zealand faced a challenging situation in their pursuit of 332 runs in the fourth innings of the Sylhet Test against Bangladesh, losing three wickets in just 30 runs.

Bangladesh set a target of 332 runs for the visitors to secure victory in this Test.

After the tea break on the fourth day, Shoriful Islam, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, and Taijul Islam each claimed a wicket for the Tigers as New Zealand found themselves at 37 for three.

Tom Latham fell in the first over of the fourth innings when Shoriful delivered a ball at the fourth stump, moving away from the batter. Latham attempted a shot to the cover region but only managed to edge the ball to the wicketkeeper, departing for a duck.

Taijul Islam secured a crucial wicket in removing Kane Williamson, the New Zealand captain, who was trapped LBW for 11.

Henry Nichols became the third wicket to fall, attempting a sweep against Mehidy but only managing a top edge that turned into a catch for Nayeem Hasan.

In the first innings, the hosts scored 310 runs, and in the second innings, they posted 338. New Zealand scored 317 in their first innings, with a century from Kane Williamson.

For Bangladesh, Mahmudul Hasan Joy contributed 86 in the first innings. In the second innings, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Bangladesh’s captain, scored a century, while Mushfiqur Rahim and Mehidy Hasan Miraz each posted a fifty.
