SUST Students want independent VC
Sylhet Bureau
Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) students want independent VC, someone who is non-partisan and an academician as VC.
Asadullah Al Ghalib, one of the coordinators of SUST anti-discrimination student movement, said this on Sunday (August 11) afternoon.
Ghalib said, the post is currently vacant due to the resignation of the vice-chancellor of our university. In this case, the students want to see an academician and non-partisan as the new vice-chancellor of the university. Whoever comes in the future can be from this university or any other university. If the Ministry of Education wants a proposal from us, we will raise it.
When asked whether the stalled administrative activities will be allowed to continue, he said, now that our university does not have the main administration, the activities of the academy or other activities will not continue. We will raise our demands to the new administration, until the demands raised by the students are accepted, the administrative proceedings will be suspended. But we are trying to bring back the normal familiarity of the campus as soon as possible.
Regarding the resignation of the administration, he said that although the vice-chancellor, vice-chancellor, treasurer, provost, proctor and others have resigned, the leaders of the teachers' association, registrar, controller and student advisor have not resigned yet. We also demand their resignation.
Meanwhile, on Saturday (August 10), the vice-chancellor of the university, Professor Farid Uddin Ahmed, resigned due to personal reasons. Later that night, Vice-Chancellor and Treasurer Professor Amina Parveen resigned. On this day, University Research Center Director Professor SM Saiful Islam, Transport Administrator Professor Mohammad Anwar Hossain and Medical Administrator Professor Asif Iqbal resigned.
Earlier on Thursday (08 August) all the provosts, assistant provosts, proctorial body members of the university submitted their resignations to the registrar. The university administration has become paralyzed due to resignations one by one.
As a result, the security risk of university teachers, students, officers and employees has increased due to the unhindered entry of outsiders. Besides, the students are afraid of a major session jam as the academic activities have been suspended for a long time. It is unclear to everyone when they will be released from this.
