
Suspected militants attack Manipur CM’s advance security convoy

An advance security team of Manipur Police that had gone to Jiribam to prepare for the visit of Manipur CM N. Biren Singh came under attack by unidentified armed miscreants.
The shootout took place near Kotlen village along a stretch of National Highway-53, The Hindu reports on Monday quoting police.
Two policemen, including the driver of the vehicle, sustained injuries. Singh is expected to visit the violence-hit area on Tuesday.
Multiple gunshots were fired at the vehicles of the security forces, compelling them to retaliate, police said
Two police outposts, a forest beat office and at least 70 houses were torched in Jiribam by suspected militants on 8 June.
The militant attack occurred a day after Narendra Modi's vibrant oath-taking ceremony as Prime Minister of India for the third consecutive term.
