The Election Commission has declared the nomination of Syed Talha Alam, AB Party candidate for Sunamganj-3 (Jagannathpur-Shantiganj) constituency as valid on January 15 appeal hearing.
Earlier, on 3 January, during the scrutiny of nomination papers at the office of the district Returning Officer, his nomination had been canceled on the pretext of tax-related complications. However, Talha Alam had claimed that there was no error in the tax information and that he was a regular taxpayer. He appealed the Returning Officer’s decision to the Election Commission.
During today’s appeal hearing, after submitting the necessary documents and evidence, the Commission expressed satisfaction and declared his nomination valid. This removes any remaining obstacles for him to contest the election.
Reacting to the decision, Syed Talha Alam said, “I have always maintained that the allegation regarding tax was incorrect. I am law-abiding and a regular taxpayer. Today, truth has prevailed. I thank the Election Commission for their fair judgment. Now, I will remain strongly active in the field to ensure the rights of the people of Jagannathpur and Shantiganj.”
Local leaders and workers of AB Party welcomed the decision with a celebratory procession and distribution of sweets. They believe that restoring Talha Alam’s candidacy will create a healthy competitive environment in the election.
It is mentioned that in the upcoming national parliamentary election on 12 February, Talha Alam, known as a young and clean politician, is generating significant interest among general voters in Sunamganj-3. He will contest the election under AB Party’s Eagle symbol.
