Students gather to besiege HC demanding resignation of pro-AL judges

Staff Correspondent

A group of students marched to the High Court (HC) premises to besiege the court on Wednesday morning, demanding the resignation of judges with alleged affiliations to the Awami League (AL).

At around 11:45am, a procession under the banner of the 'Anti-Discrimination Student Movement' started from Dhaka University's Raju Sculpture and went towards the HC through Doyal Square.

The march follows an announcement made by Hasnat Abdullah and Sargis Alam, two coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement. On Tuesday, both leaders shared verified posts on their Facebook profiles calling for a seizure of the High Court.

“Our demand is the resignation of fascist judges loyal to the AL. The High Court will be besieged at 11am tomorrow,” read their posts.

In the comments section, Hasnat Abdullah wrote: “How dare they chant slogans in the name of Hasina at the High Court, just months after shedding the blood of thousands of students and citizens?” Sargis Alam added: “The state can’t function properly because of Hasina’s cronies. The country will never progress unless they are ousted.”

Meanwhile, pro-AL lawyers held a protest rally outside the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's (CMM) Court during the remand hearings of Lt. Col. (Retd.) Muhammad Faruk Khan and Dr Abdur Razzak.
