State Minister for Foreign Affairs receives bodies of two remittance fighters killed in Lebanon

The bodies of two Bangladeshi remittance fighters, Shafiqul Islam and Md. Nahidul Islam Nahid, who were killed in an Israeli drone strike on May 11, 2026, in the Jibdin area of the Nabatieh region in southern Lebanon, arrived in the country on Sunday.
State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaid Islam received their bodies at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka. Later, he handed over the bodies to the family members of the deceased. At the time, the State Minister for Foreign Affairs expressed deep shock at the untimely and tragic death of the deceased and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members.
The deceased Shafiqul Islam is a resident of Bhaluka Chandpur village in Satkhira Sadar upazila. His father's name is Afsar Ali and mother's name is Ajeya Khatun. On the other hand, the deceased Md. Nahidul Islam Nahid is a resident of Kadakati union in Asashuni upazila of the same district. His father's name is Md. Abdul Kader and mother's name is Nurnahar Khatun. Both of them had been working in Lebanon for a long time and had been making an important contribution to the family and the country's economy by sending regular remittances to the country.
Qatar Airways flight QR-0427 carrying the two bodies departed Beirut International Airport at 6:25 PM local time on June 2026. The bodies were later transferred to Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on June 7, 2026 (midnight of June 6) by Qatar Airways flight QR-0642 .
Bangladesh Embassy, Beirut has taken all necessary measures to repatriate the bodies of the two deceased Bangladeshi nationals. The Embassy has taken the certified police report, permission to repatriate the bodies and other necessary preparations through close communication and coordination with the concerned Lebanese authorities. The Bangladesh Government is closely monitoring the situation through the Bangladesh Embassy in Beirut and continues to provide necessary assistance to ensure the safety and welfare of Bangladeshi nationals working in Lebanon.
