Social initiatives launched in Pirojpur to combat drugs

 

Zubayer, Pirojpur

A three-month-long anti-drug campaign has been announced with the active participation of 26 social and professional organizations in Pirojpur district town, aiming to build a drug-free society.

A view-exchange meeting and press briefing were held on Friday at Pirojpur Press Club auditorium to mark the launch of the initiative.

Presided over by Moniruzzaman Nasim Ali, a senior journalist and President of the Pirojpur District Corruption Prevention Committee (Duprok), the event was attended by Nazmus Sakib Sourav, Assistant Commissioner of the Pirojpur District Administration, as the chief guest.

Among others who spoke at the event were Additional Public Prosecutor Adv. Md. Wahid Hasan Babu, senior journalist and freedom fighter MA Rabbani Firoz, senior journalist Khalid Abu, journalist Hasan Mamun, General Secretary of 'Positive Pirojpur' Zubayer Al Mamun, and General Secretary of the Retired Armed Forces Council Habibur Rahman.

The program was moderated by Professor Shah Alam, General Secretary of Pirojpur District Sujan (Shushashoner Jonno Nagorik).

According to the press briefing, the extensive campaign will feature view-exchange meetings with the district administration, police administration, lawyers, public representatives, religious leaders, teachers, professionals, and transport stakeholders.

Furthermore, public rallies will be organized at key locations, including Shankerpasha Union Parishad, Kalakhali Union Parishad, Hularhat Bazar, Kadamtala Bazar, the Baleshwar Bridge area, the Old Bus Stand, and the Alamkathi Bypass intersection.

The campaign will also actively promote a ban on the sale of tobacco products to minors under the age of 18, raise awareness about ensuring students return home on time, and stage anti-drug street plays, mass dramas, and cultural performances.

Speakers at the meeting warned that drug addiction poses a terrible threat to society. They emphasized that a coordinated effort involving families, educational institutions, social organizations, and the administration is critical to saving the youth from the clutches of drugs, and called for building a strong social movement against narcotics.

The meeting concluded with a collective pledge to implement an integrated action plan to transform Pirojpur into a drug-free district.
