Seven killed by lightning strikes in three districts

Seven people were killed by lightning strikes in Narsingdi, Tangail and Gazipur on Saturday morning.
Of the deceased, four people, including mother and son, were killed in Narsinghdi. The lightning incidents took place in Narsingdi’s Alokbali Uttarpara and Hazipur area 10:00 am today.
The deceased were identified as Sharifa Begum, 50, wife of Kamal Miah; her son Iqbal Hossain, 12; and Qayyum Mia, 22, son of Karam Ali from Alokbali village; and Moslehuddin, 50, from the Hajipur area.
According to media reports, in the Alokbari village, Sharifa Begum and her son Iqbal died on the spot from the lightning strike. Kaiyum, died on way to Sadar Hospital. One person named Kamal Hossain, who was injured in the incident, is now under treatment at the hospital. All of them were working on the field to harvest paddy at the time of the incident.
In addition, one more person, Moslehuddin, died from a lightning strike in Hajipur.
In Tangail, two cousins were killed after being struck by lightning in Kalihati upazila while harvesting paddy.
They are identified as Afzal Hossain, 55, and Amir Hossain, 52.
Confirming the matter, Birbasinda Union Parishad Chairman Sohrab Hossain, said they were killed by a lightning strike while harvesting paddy in a field in Nawabari village.
In Gazipur, a woman identified as Fatema Khatun, 45, was killed by lightning strike in Sreepur upazila.
Quddus Mia, Sub-Inspector of Sreepur Police Station, confirmed the death saying that the incident took place around 10:00am when Fatema was engaged in household chores in the yard.
She was immediately taken to Sreepur Upazila Health Complex, where doctors pronounced her dead, the SI added.
