A seminar on the expansion of Bangladesh Bank’s Cashless Bangladesh initiative was held on Sunday morning at the hall of Faridpur Shishu Academy, organized by Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC, Faridpur branch.
The event was presided over by Rafeza Akter Kanta, Director of the Payment Systems Department, Bangladesh Bank Headquarters. The chief guest was Executive Director and Spokesperson of Bangladesh Bank, Arif Hossain Khan, and Engineer Md. Jamal Uddin Majumdar, Additional Managing Director of Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC, attended as a special guest. Also present were Professor Dr. Dilruba Jeba, Principal of Faridpur Medical College, Faridpur Assistant Commissioner & Executive Magistrate Md. Tanmoy Islam, and other bank officials.
Prior to the seminar, a colorful rally was held to promote the Cashless Bangladesh initiative, starting from Faridpur Government Rajendra College and concluding at Faridpur Shishu Academy. Following the rally, invited guests took their seats, and floral greetings were exchanged.
During the seminar, a video message from the Governor of Bangladesh Bank was shown, and Parwez Anjam Munir, Additional Director of the Payment Systems Department, gave a presentation on the Cashless Bangladesh initiative.
It was explained that with the cashless system, customers can make payments quickly, easily, and at low cost by scanning a single QR code from their account or wallet. The use of Bangla QR codes is being introduced to facilitate this process.
The seminar highlighted that moving the country’s financial transactions from cash-based to cashless will reduce the risks and inconveniences of carrying cash, prevent counterfeit currency usage, increase transparency and efficiency in the economy, and save the government the high costs of printing currency.
The program concluded with a customer experience sharing session, followed by an open discussion and Q&A session.
