Sylhet City Corporation Mayor Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina.

This meeting was held at Ganabhaban today Monday morning.

Sheikh Rehana, younger sister of the Prime Minister and youngest daughter of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was present there.

Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury's first meeting with the Prime Minister after taking charge of Sylhet City Corporation as Mayor. He congratulated the Prime Minister and Sheikh Rehana with a bouquet of flowers.

During the meeting, on the third day of his assumption of office, Sisik expressed sincere gratitude and thanks to the government and the Prime Minister on behalf of the citizens of Sylhet City Corporation for approving a big project worth Tk 1,459 crore for the overall development of Sylhet city residents.

Besides, he once again expressed his sincere gratitude to Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Rehana for nominating him as a candidate for the post of Mayor of Sylhet City Corporation.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister greeted the people of Sylhet and reiterated that he is sincere in the overall development of this township. He also advised Sisik Mayor to work intensively for the people.

It is to be noted that Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury won the Sylhet City Corporation election held on June 21 this year as the nominated candidate of Awami League with a huge margin. On November 7, he assumed the duties of the mayor through an informal ceremony. After that, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina approved a project of Tk 1459 kt for infrastructure development of Sylhet City Corporation in a separate meeting held at the NEC conference room in Sher-i Bangla Nagar of the capital on November9.
