Russia extends US reporter Gershkovich's pre-trial detention

International Desk

A Moscow court on Tuesday extended US journalist Evan Gershkovich's pre-trial detention to June 30, ensuring the 32-year-old facing espionage charges meaning he will have spent over a year behind bars.

The Moscow City Court said in a statement it had extended the term of detention of Evan Gershkovich until June 30, 2024, following a hearing in the Russian capital.

Russian security forces detained Gershkovich in March last year on espionage charges denounced by his employer and the United States as false.
