Narayanganj Correspondent

Rupganj upazila unit Awami League has brought out a peace procession protesting the subversive activities in the name of nationwide blockade programme enforced by BNP-Jamaat clique.

A number of leaders and activists of Awami League and its different and associate bodies brought out the peace procession at Kendua point on the Asian Highway on Thursday morning.

The procession led by Kanchan Municipality Mayor Rafiqul Islam on behalf of Rupganj Upazila Parishad Chairman Shahjahan Bhuiyan, an Awami League nomination seeker, marched through different streets in the area.

The upazila unit Awami League leaders, including Mashiur Rahman Tareque, Kamal Hossain, Riton Prodhan, Aminul Haque Khakan, local Chhatra League leader Ashiqul Islam, among others, took part in the procession.

While addressing a street side rally, the Awami League leaders said that the BNP-Jamaat men are engaged in carrying out clandestine attacks to create an anarchical situation in the country in the name of a blockade programme.

The vested quarter is hatching a plot to create disturbances on the way of holding the 12th parliamentary election in a free, fair and peaceful manner, they said.

Awami League and Chhatra League men will take to the street to pay a befitting reply to the BNP-Jamaat nexus, they said.

BNP and its like-minded political parties including Jamaat-e-Islami enforced nationwide blockade programme in protest against the announcement of the election schedule deeming it one-sided.
