Robbery at fish-laden truck on Dhaka-Mawa Expressway

A truck carrying 168 cartons of fish was robbed on the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway in Sreenagar. The incident occurred at around 3:30 AM on Sunday in the Masurgao area near the old ferry ghat on the expressway.Frequent incidents of robbery and mugging on the expressway have instilled a sense of fear among its users.
According to sources, the truck (Dhaka Metro-N-19-0853) was en route to Dhaka from Jashore carrying 168 cartons of fish. Around 3:30 AM, as the truck reached the Masurgao area on the Dhaka-bound lane of the expressway, a gang of robbers lying in wait in a pickup van blocked its path.
The robbers climbed onto the truck, incapacitated the driver, Abu Bakar Siddiq Sagar (28), with an electric shock device, and tied up the helper, Al-Amin Hossain. They then took control of the truck.Around 4:15 AM, the robbers tied the driver and helper to a tree beside the service lane of the expressway in the Hasara area of the upazila and fled with the truck.At dawn, with the help of an auto-rickshaw driver, the robbed truck’s driver and helper reached the Upazila Health Complex, received medical attention, and later filed a written complaint at the Srinagar police station.
OC Abdul Qader Gilani of Hasara Highway Police Station said police are investigating the matter.
