
One killed, 23 injured as jeep falls into gorge in Alikadam

One person was killed and at least 23 others, including women and children, were injured when a jeep lost control and plunged into a gorge in the remote Kolarjhiri Tripura Para area of Alikadam upazila in Bandarban. The tragic accident occurred around 10:00 AM on Friday.
The deceased has been identified as Tonoya Mro (26), a resident of Thongpong Para in Ward 9 of Rupshi Para Union in Lama upazila, and son of Kralai Mro. The injured are from various villages in Dim Pahar of Alikadam and Thanchi upazila.
According to police and local sources, a jeep carrying 24 passengers was traveling from Thongpong Para in Dim Pahar, Thanchi upazila, to Alikadam for a visit. As the vehicle reached the hilly Kolarjhiri area, it lost control and fell into a deep ravine. Tonoya Mro died on the spot, while 23 passengers sustained serious injuries. Locals and fire service personnel rescued the injured and recovered the deceased, then transported them to the Alikadam Upazila Health Complex.
Dr. Hossainur Rashid, the on-duty physician at Alikadam Health Complex, stated that 23 injured individuals were brought in around 10:30 AM. Of them, 12 received first aid and were released, while 11 critically injured patients were referred to Cox's Bazar Medical College for advanced treatment.
Alikadam Police Station OC Mirza Zahir Uddin said, police recovered the body from the scene and assisted in taking the injured to the health complex. Legal procedures related to the incident are currently underway.
