RMG worker unrest: 3,500 sued, 5 workers arrested

A total of 12 cases were filed with Ashulia Police Station, on the outskirts of the capital, on charges of factory vandalism, looting of goods, and beating of office workers in the industrial area of Ashulia in the ongoing movement to increase the wages of garment workers.

Out of these cases, 16 workers were accused in one case. Besides, 3,000 to 3,500 unknown workers and instigators were made accused in the cases.

Dhaka District Additional Superintendent of Police (Savar Circle) Shahidul Islam confirmed the matter.

He said, “So far, a total of 12 cases have been lodged with Ashulia Police Station in the ongoing movement. The factory authorities filed the cases. Only 16 workers were named in one case. A total of 3,000 to 3,500 people have been made unknown accused in other cases.”

So far 5 people have been arrested in these cases. Those who have been arrested are all workers, he added.
