Regional Workshop on Nutrition Development and Poverty Alleviation Project through Expansion of Mushroom Cultivation was held in Sylhet. The workshop was organized by Sylhet Directorate of Agricultural Extension (DAE) at Sylhet Zilla Parishad hall on Monday (May 20) noon. Additional Secretary (Planning Division) of the Ministry of Agriculture Mahbubul Haque Patwari was present as the chief guest in the workshop.

Sarzamin Wing, Directorate of Agricultural Extension, Khamarbari, Director of Dhaka, Krishibid Md. Tajul islam Patwari Presided over the workshop. Additional Director of Comilla Agricultural Extension Directorate, Krishibid Md. Aktaruzzaman, Additional Director of Sylhet Agricultural Extension Department, Agriculture. Matiuzzaman, Vice Principal of Sylhet Agricultural Training Institute. Mohammad Kazi Mujibur Rahman spoke the workshop as special guest. 

The main article of the workshop was presented by the director of nutrition development and poverty reduction project through the expansion of mushroom cultivation D.Akhtar Jahan Kakan. Fenchuganj Upazila Agriculture Officer Subrata Deb Nath and Metropolitan Agriculture Officer Saima Nazneen spoke in the joint presentation workshop.

various District Deputy Directors, District Training Officers, Additional Deputy Directors, Upazila Agriculture Officers, Additional Agriculture Officers, Agricultural Extension Officers and Deputy Assistant Agricultural Officers participated the workshop.

The chief guest in the workshop said that although we can achieve self-sufficiency in food, we are still lagging behind in nutrition intake. One of the reasons for this is ignorance. As mushroom is a halal vegetable rich in nutrients along with various qualities, the cultivation of this crop should be increased. Through this, it will be possible to play a big role in earning foreign exchange along with ensuring nutritional security.

Wean while. the main objective of this project is to improve nutrition, reduce poverty and create employment opportunities. Through this, 800 entrepreneurs will be created across the country. Mushroom village will be established with their cooperation. This project is ongoing in 150 upazilas and 15 metropolitan areas of 64 districts of the country.
