RBRU VC resigns finally

After various speculations, Rangpur Begum Rokeya University (RBRU) Vice-Chancellor Dr. Mohammad Hasibur Rashid has resigned finally.

VC Professor Dr. Mohammad Hasibur Rashid has sent his resignation letter to the President on Friday morning, August 9. Mohammad Ali, Additional Director of the Public Relations Department of the University, confirmed the matter in the afternoon.

Before this, Professor Hasibur Rasheed officially joined RBRU as Vice-Chancellor on March 15, 2023. He was the fifth Vice-Chancellor of this University. After the resignation of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on August 5, the people holding important positions in RBRU resigned on August 6. Among them were University Proctor Shariful Islam, Transport Director Dr. Kamruzzaman, Library Director Professor Dr. Gazi Mazharul Anwar and Bangabandhu Hall Provost Professor Dr. Bijan Mohan Chaki. They submitted their resignations to the registrar of the university. On August 8, the leaders of the quota reform movement demanded his resignation.

Abu Sayeed led the quota reform movement from the front line. On July 16, students clashed with the police, Chhatra League and Jubo League at the park intersection adjacent to the university. At one stage, Abu Sayeed was shot dead by the police. The next day on July 17, he was buried at the village house. One of the coordinators of Begum Rokeya University in the quota reform movement was Abu Sayeed, a 12th batch student of the English department.
