Rangpur Police sought cooperation of people

Rangpur Correspondent

“The mental courage of the field level police has been broken due to the current unstable situation. Suspicion and fear are working among them. Therefore, if journalists and Rangpur residents give us strength, courage and hope, we can serve Rangpur residents. We cannot provide civic services without your cooperation. Because we are getting attacked when we go out, how can we serve the citizens in such a situation?”

Rangpur Range DIG Abdul Baten and Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mohammad Moniruzzaman gave this call to Rangpur residents in two separate press conferences on Thursday afternoon, August 8.
The police officers made a desperate appeal and said, "Make our working environment so that we are not abused." Meanwhile, the DIG of Police and the Metropolitan Commissioner requested the cooperation of Rangpur residents.

Police DIG Abdul Baten said that the student crowd won through the movement of anti-discrimination activists. Everyone expects that victory will reform all the structures of the state. We also want to reform the discrimination in the police. The policemen, including the field level, presented several demands. The demands are reasonable. If the government is formed, those demands will be presented through appropriate channels.

He said, “No student or crowd or policeman died during the anti-discrimination movement anywhere in the eight districts of Rangpur division under my jurisdiction. However, many were injured. We have 122 policemen injured. Along with this, police lines, police stations, Faris have suffered a lot of vandalism and fire. It has caused a huge loss of government resources.” After overcoming these issues, he once again expects the cooperation of Rangpur residents and journalists to build the country and provide civic services.

On the other hand, Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mohammad Moniruzzaman said, “I have appeared before you today with a lot of trouble and a sad heart. All our officers are present. We are sad, we are sorry. Many untoward things happened in Rangpur. More would have happened if our Jamaat-e-Islami, BNP, Jatiya Party and Islami Andolan Bangladesh had not cooperated. Due to their cooperation, no untoward incident happened in Rangpur.”

He said, “Currently the police strike is going on, we want everyone's cooperation so that no opportunist can harm or loot anyone. The leaders of BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, Jatiya Party, Islami Andolan Bangladesh have already been talked to, and the process of forming a committee is also underway. We hope this crisis will end soon.” He hopes that the void will disappear as soon as the new government takes oath. Senior police officers were present at two separate press conferences.
