Sajjadur Rahman, the head of the mechanical branch of Nagar Bhaban, has been temporarily suspended for sending an offensive message to a female colleague of the water branch of Rangpur City Corporation on WhatsApp. In this regard, a three-member investigation committee headed by the executive magistrate has been constituted.

City Mayor Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa confirmed to reporters that a decision was taken to temporarily suspend the officer from a meeting 10 August 2022 afternoon. Meanwhile, Sajjadur Rahman was harassed by the angry relatives of the victim woman in room number 311 of the third floor of Nagar Bhaban around 12 noon when the matter of sending offensive messages became known.

Later, the chief executive officer of Rangpur City Corporation along with the mayor and councilors sat in a meeting with the accused Sajjadur Rahman. After the meeting, City Mayor Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa told reporters that there was an allegation against Sajjadur Rahman, the head of the mechanical department, of sending offensive messages to a female colleague of the water department from his mobile phone.

The woman's relatives got angry and shouted at the city hall. After learning about the matter, we immediately sat in a meeting with the accused Sajjadur and the women's supporters. Sajjadur Rahman admitted to giving the message in the meeting.

The mayor also said that since Sajjadur Rahman himself admitted his crime, it was unanimously decided to suspend him in the meeting. In addition, a three-member investigation committee headed by City Corporation Executive Magistrate Mahmudul Hasan Mridha has been formed to verify the truth of the incident. Executive Engineer Azam Ali and Head of General Branch Naeem Hossain have been made members of the committee.

They will submit the investigation report within the next 15 working days. The matter will be sent to the Ministry for final disposal.

Sajjadur Rahman, the accused in the incident, told reporters, "I sent a message to that woman, but it was not an offensive message." He said that he was harassed by a councilor's men in his room for sending messages to a female colleague.
