On Monday (December 11) at the end of the month of Agrahayan, the bone-shaking severe winter started suddenly. Normal life has been disturbed everywhere in the upazila due to heavy fog along with winter and Northern frosty wind coming from north-west and moderate to heavy fog.

The temperature was recorded at 20 degrees Celsius at 8 am. Due to winter and fog, especially children and old people have increased suffering. The prevalence of colds and fevers, especially respiratory diseases, has increased. The daily consumption of food by the poor has also had an adverse effect on the income.

Since morning, the nature of the upazila has been covered in thick fog. Vehicles were seen driving with headlights on in urban and rural roads. However, no accidents have been reported due to the fog. Meanwhile, ignoring the cold, various low-income people including laborers are seen going to work in the morning to earn a living.

Some workers including Dulal, Saiful, Mustafa said that it is quite cold, the hands are getting paralyzed due to fog and frost. However, I came to work in the potato field because of my stomach. Some van drivers say it's foggy and cold at the beginning of the season. As it is difficult to drive a van due to winter, passengers also do not want to get into the van easily. I went out in the morning. Making bread has become difficult. Locals said that the winters are already a little longer in North Bengal.

The temperature starts to decrease from the middle of November.As the temperature drops, the winter season begins to rise. After 11 o'clock the temperature is fairly normal, but before the evening sets in, the chill of winter is felt. Starting from evening till eleven o'clock the next day, the fury of winter continues. Doctors fear that the incidence of cold-related diseases in children and the elderly will increase in severe winter. In the meantime, number of different diseases including pneumonia have appeared in private hospitals and doctors including Sherpur Upazila Health Complex. Most of which are children.

Doctors fear that the situation will deteriorate further as the mercury in the temperature gradually decreases. Cattle ranchers are also in trouble. The farmers of the area were worried about the production of rice seeds and mustard as the temperature mercury was above normal. But as the mercury in the temperature drops, even if it gives positive results in mustard production, it can cause cold injury to the rice seedling, according to the field level agronomists. On the other hand, vegetable growers are also worried about winter vegetables.

According to Bogra Meteorological Office sources, it is foggy during the day, especially due to the effect of rain in the last few days. The cold is felt more as the frost flows. He said that the temperature will decrease further.
