A protest march and rally was held Tuesday morning in Shyamnagar upazila, Satkhira, organized by the Shyamnagar upazila branch of the Coalition of MPO-Affiliated Educational Institutions.
The action condemned the assault and humiliation of teachers who had gone to the Dhaka Press Club to demand house rent, medical allowances and festival bonuses. The march began at the Shyamnagar Secondary Teachers’ Association office, proceeded through the main roads of the upazila with slogans, and gathered in front of the Shyamnagar Upazila Press Club for a rally. Speakers at the rally, chaired by Asaduzzaman Mithu, President of Shyamnagar Upazila Secondary Teachers’ Association and a headmaster, included former headmaster and former upazila BNP president Master Abdul Wahed; the association’s general secretary and headmaster Abdus Sattar; headmasters Joydev Biswas, Azaharul Islam and Rezaul Islam; college teacher Sirajul Islam; teacher Abdul Wahab; and other heads of educational institutions and assistant teachers.
