Process for recruiting Bangladeshi workers in Brunei begins 1 Feb

Staff Correspondent

The Labour Department under the Ministry of Home Affairs of Brunei has announced that the process for recruitment of Bangladeshi workers will be started from 1 February only through designated agencies, a press release from BOESL confirmed.

On 22nd and 23rd January 2024, the Bangladesh High Commission, Brunei and the Department of Labour, Brunei notified the newly effective immigration process to the licensed employment agencies in the presence of Bangladesh Overseas Employment and Services Limited (BOESL).

It is expected that this newly launched process will be effective in recruiting workers from Bangladesh to Brunei at a safe and controlled cost with transparency and prevention of any fraud and human trafficking.

The revised process aims to ensure transparency, prevent fraud, and address human trafficking concerns related to the recruitment of Bangladeshi workers.

According to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by the Minister for Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment of Bangladesh and the Minister for Home Affairs of Brunei on October 16, 2022.

The interested agencies will complete this immigration process by signing an agreement between the State Recruiting Agency BOESL on behalf of Bangladesh and the agencies licensed by the concerned government on behalf of Brunei to ensure the sending of all workers from Bangladesh to Brunei at a controlled cost.

Around 25,000 Bangladeshi workers work in various sectors including the construction sector, cleaning, restaurants, oil and gas in Brunei, a country rich in natural resources in Southeast Asia.
