Md. Anwar Hossain, Principal of Dharmapur Goalvita Hossainia Alim Madrasa in Badalgachhi Upazila of Naogaon, has been booked for being absent from the madrasa, accepting money from a teacher and emptying the madrasa's funds. A letter in this regard was sent to him on Monday.

It is learned that the report of the investigation committee formed by the Upazila Executive Officer, Mr. Day, has found the primary truth of the allegations brought against you. According to the report, you are involved in various criminal activities including embezzling the funds of the institution. In addition, you have accepted 1 lakh 4 thousand taka from the assistant teacher of this madrasa, Ms. Sharmin Akhter, as if to return it to the government treasury, but you have not submitted the receipt or treasury challan to her or the acting principal, which is tantamount to embezzlement. In addition, you have emptied the madrasa fund by withdrawing 70 thousand taka on July 10 last year and 78 thousand taka on August 8, the correct account of which has not been presented yet and you have been absent from work without permission since September 2. In such a situation, you have been asked to submit a satisfactory reply within 7 days of receipt of the letter stating why statutory legal action should not be taken against you.

When asked, the assistant teacher of the madrasa, Ms. Sharmin Akhter, said, "I went on maternity leave after joining the job. During that time, I received salary and allowances as per government rules. After joining the institution after the leave, the principal told me that I would not receive any salary and allowances for that period. He pressured me to return all the money withdrawn during that time to the government treasury through the principal. I gave him that money because I did not know. Then when I asked for the receipt of the money refund, he started making excuses and so far he has not given me the receipt or the money back."

Although Principal Anwar Hossain's cell phone was called several times to inquire about this matter, it was not possible to get any comment from him as the number was switched off.

Confirming the authenticity of the show cause notice, Madrasa President Delwar Hossain said, "As the principal has been absent from the madrasa without permission since September 2 and it has been prima facie proven that he has embezzled money, it was decided to show cause notice to him in yesterday's meeting. Accordingly, a show cause notice letter has been sent to him through the post office today."
