Press conference held in Bandarban against Illegal land grabbing
Bandarban Correspondent
A press conference was organized by affected families in Bandarban to protest and seek justice against the illegal occupation of land by the Ramjadi authorities on Tuesday noon at Bandarban Press Club auditorium.
During the press conference, victim Saing Saing U Nini stated that a group has forcibly occupied 5 acres of land purchased in her husband’s name during the Uchhlabhant era in Bandarban, under the pretext of Ramjadi Kyang. She added that not only their land but also the properties of several neighboring families have been seized in the name of a religious institution.
She further explained that for over a decade, they have been fighting a legal battle, winning every case in favor of justice. However, she expressed dismay that, despite a recent ruling under Section 145 by the Additional District Magistrate (ADM) and an injunction, the Ramjadi authorities have disregarded the administration and continued their attempts to illegally occupy the land. She remarked, “For ordinary people like me, who live respecting the law without resorting to muscle power or money, leading a normal life in Bandarban has become unbearable. It becomes even more complicated when a religious institution, under the guise of faith, engages in the heinous crime of land grabbing and exploits people’s sentiments.”
As a peace-loving and responsible citizen, she appealed for government and administrative assistance to reclaim her rightful property. She also strongly demanded that those who violate the country’s laws and engage in land grabbing be brought to justice.
