Power generation resumes in Barapukuria Thermal Power Unit No. 1 on Saturday

After being shut down for a day due to a mechanical fault, power generation has resumed at Unit 1 of Barapukuria Thermal Power Plant in Dinajpur. Currently, 50 megawatts of electricity is being supplied to the national grid from the unit.
Abu Bakar Siddique, Chief Engineer of Barapukuria Thermal Power Plant, confirmed the matter at around 11:30 am on Saturday.
He said that Unit 1 was restarted at 9:23 am on Saturday. Since its launch, 50 megawatts of electricity generated from the unit has been added to the national grid.
Earlier, authorities shut down power generation at Unit 1 on Friday morning due to a sudden mechanical failure. Before the shutdown, the unit was supplying 50 megawatts of electricity to the national grid.
Meanwhile, Unit 3 of the plant is also currently operational. This 275 MW unit is currently generating 170 MW of electricity and supplying it to the national grid.
On the other hand, Unit 2 of the Barapukuria Thermal Power Plant has been closed since 2020.
